Are we saying goodbye to MP3?

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Now that Alcatel-Lucent won an unprecedented $1.5 Billion patent infringement lawsuit (one of six lawsuits) against Microsoft, this will boost their claim against all other companies using MP3 technology. The patents in question govern the conversion of audio into the digital MP3 file format on personal computers.
We’re already seeing reports that Apple, Samsung and Sandisk [...]

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

I’ve been complaining for a few weeks now that my Smart Bro connection has been crappy whenever it rains, so I called up tech support and asked for a reposition of my antenna.

Election Campaign Jingles: Do They Bother With Copyright?

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

It’s election season once again, folks. It’s the time for crappy campaign advertisements on TV and radio, poster-polluted streets, and musically-challenged jingles. We’ve heard them over and over–campaign lyrics sung to the tune of popular songs, mostly from vans blaring the songs from tinny speakers (which makes the songs barely comprehensible). Apparently, music is an [...]

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

When I saw Rain’s portable hard drive w/ flash reader in our last trip to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Pampanga, my interest to get one for my Canon 350D grew even more. However, spending another Php2k+ for the HDD case and Php5k for a 2.5″ HDD might seem out of budget consider I [...]

Stop crime, use your cameraphone

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Amazing!
A cameraphone helped foil a kidnap attempt at Philippine Tourism Authority Secretary Robert Dean Barbers!
I heard about the kidnap attempt in passing, but the report I picked up was that a news *crew* foiled the attempt. But no, it wasn’t a *crew*, it was a just one man with a cameraphone recording the crime.
The [...]
