[...] In Pinoytechblog, an article I wrote has caused some sort of debate because I quoted a statement that Jepoy made, comparing Sigaw ng Bayan’s web statistics explanation to “a CISCO certified individual listening to a 1st year Nursing student trying to explain the very basics of a router.” Actually, this was not the original phrase. The original phrase was “like a CISCO certified individual listening to a 1st year Nursing student trying to explain the internet” and certain individuals found insult in the phrase. Now what is so insulting about this phrase? Is knowing the internet a measurement of one’s intelligence? Are we saying that a person is ignorant because he or she doesn’t understand the internet? If that is the case, then call me stupid because even I can’t confidently explain its inner workings. Sure I know how to dial-up into an ISP, how to launch a browser, or how to email. I know how to setup a home network, but I will be stumped to explain the difference between a router, a hub, a switch, and a bridge. I won’t be able to explain the differences between TCP/IP and other networking protocols or why internal IP addresses start at 192 or how the internet keeps track of MAC addresses and so forth. One blogger (bloggermentarist) asked me “why the comparison with the nurses..? why not 1st year IT students..? can they explain it better than the 1st year nurse students..?” My answer, which doesn’t jive with his, is: most probably a 1st year IT student can explain better than a 1st year nurse student. It is not because the nursing student is stupid, just that it is not in his or her field of expertise. [...]

[...] I have been monitoring PinoyTechBlog (9 million visitors can’t be wrong?) lately. The comment posts are becoming quite dirty. The frackers Jegoy, Siomai Master and Karlopongit are pooling resources and intimidation power to gang up on one person, blogger bloggementarist (aka wrencelot). The latter earlier complained that about Jegoy’s unsavory remarks about CCNA profesionals versus nursing freshmen. Points were made, apologies flew and some blog edits were commited. But… but…. but…. the bashing never stops. Just watch the circus and be amazed. I sided earlier with the three stooges’ point of view. But later on, they started on a spree of character assanition and foul mouthing. I tried restraining myself in providing my own comment post not because I am afraid of any bashing, but because I don’t want to stoop to such stupidity. Siomai is supposedly an instructor at the fabled university: AMA. What kind of example Siomai is trying to project to his students? Oh well, this is my blog and I’d choose to bash whoever I want… [...]
