A ‘For-Everybody’ GNU/Linux and FOSS mailing list

Taken from the gmail-phils mailing list:

Do you want to ask a question related to GNU/Linux? Do you want to discuss Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) with other UP students?

The University of the Philippines Linux Users’ Group (UnPLUG) is opening a mailing list to the public devoted to GNU/Linux system tech support and tech discussions on FOSS.

One thing that the local FOSS movements need to do is to really reach out to the pubic and shed off that aura of geek-exclusivity. The Usapan public mailing list appears to recognize that, though my only comment -not meant to be negative, really- is that the mailing list format is of the old-school sort, and, say, not as popular as a Yahoo! Group setup. I’d readily welcome the unfamiliar terrain, and I’ve already subscribed to a daily digest of the list, but I already do have a Mandriva/XP dual-boot box, so I don’t need much convincing.
