Nothing wrong with offering MMS-powered photoblogs. It’s when users start doing the unthinkable that a great idea such as the Addict Mobile Blog becomes a PR nightmare.

[...] This is why “mobile blogging” isn’t safe for kids — Smart’s Addict Mobile Blog (or AMBlog) is being swamped by nude pictures being posted via MMS by its subscribers. [...]

Shouldn’t they be socially, morally responsible? Kumikita kasi sila bawat click sa mga pics kung gamit ang cellphone, kaya pinababayaan na lang siguro.

Kates: Yeah, Smart’s responsible. Why they let people post photos directly to their site can be explained by sheer stupidity.

Yuga: Nah, even if it actually cost money to post photos, I think these people would’ve still put up those pictures. Because, who can resist the chance to put porn on one of the sites of a powerful telco?

They should have seen this coming (no pun intended).

I hear these kinds of photos have surfaced in their blog in the past but were quickly removed. What happened now? They should have made the blog better moderated, better filtered.

    tsk tsk tsk iling. …

[...] Addict Mobile PR Nightmare is probably one of the worst scenarios that would make a telecom giant hide in shame due to the fact that there’s no one removing the R-18 content found there. They should do something about this as soon as possible. Doing ala Pontius Pilate washing of the hands is unacceptable. They made the rules and they should let the users know that the rules should not be broken. They are responsible in upholding those rules. [...]

I could imagine technophobes telling their kids:

“O, sabi ko na nga, masama yang MMS na iyan eh! Hwag ka na mag-cellphone!”

That’s obviously the wrong way to treat the issue.

Let the technology find its good use.

And for perverts to find their own place, wherever that may be.

[...] A couple of weeks back, PTB blogged about the Addict Mobile photoblog and then there’s the perpetually active Smart Wifi post. Now there’s a whitepaper that aims to put forward a model to measure quantitatively the impact of blogs on brands (PDF). “We wanted to take a scientific approach – objectively demonstrating which bloggers have authority and an ability to affect corporate reputation.” Mark Rogers, CEO at Market Sentinel said. “Using the science of citation indexing, and the Dell case study, we are able to quantify and analysis the impact each blogger has on a company’s brand image and analyse the indirect influence as well as direct impact: proving that blogging has a significant affect on reputation.” [...]
