Asus unveils own ultrabook, calls it the Zenbook
After a day of seeing the Acer Aspire S3, Asus unveils its own ultrabook, the Zenbook which comes in two models (UX21 and UX31) and is set to be available in the US tomorrow. As common with most ultrabooks that we saw, the Zenbook looks like your MacBook Air with its ultra-thin front, aluminum chassis and the generous-sized touchpad.
The Asus Zenbook comes in either 11-inch (UX21) or 13-inch (display) and is powered by the 2nd generation Intel Core processors starting from a Core i3-2367 to a Core i7-2677. Asus claims that it’s the thinnest laptop around being just a measley 3mm at its thinnest point and 9mm at its thickest. The Acer Aspire S3 is 13mm at its thinnest.
Aside from the slim profile, the Zenbook has a few other specs which puts it ahead of the Aspire S3. The 13-inch version has a high resolution of 1600 x 900 and these ultrabooks have an SSD drive starting at 64GB (for the 11-inch) for quicker performance. For comparison, the Acer S3 has a combination of HDD and SSD. The Zenbook also comes with one USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, microHDMI and miniVGA port, Bluetooth 4.0 and audio from Bang & Olufsen ICEpower® SonicMaster. Only the 13-inch version has the card reader.
We don’t have local pricing yet but in the US, price starts at $999 for the 11-inch and $1,099 for the basic 13-inch. A bit more expensive than the Acer but the specs make up for it.

gaganda ng mga ultrabooks. pero out of reach din. kahit sabihin mong kasing-price lang ng macbook air, these won’t carry the prestige of owning an MBA.
So it’s the prestige versus functionality? I think we should call those who buy Macbook Air for the “prestige” factor only, Macbook Airheads!
I think I need to have this ultrabook haha! mukang magaan e! LOL!!!
Best bang for the buck talaga ang ASUS (even MSI); unlike China clone-brands like NEO and Redfox, Asus and MSI are world-class, very reliable and proven tech because they manufacture their own not just assembling them like some China brands.
While Sony, Lenovo and Acer focus on looks, style and an insane HDD capacity, Asus and MSI (and Toshiba) focus on CPU and videocard performance to price ratio. Meaning, higher end graphics at cheaper prices. (and we both know how we prefer graphics over HDD capacity)
Nice Reviews, keep it up! =)
I hope they it will have the i7 version here in the Philippines
Guys,
Where I could buy the UX31 i7 version?
