Lenovo Vibe Z K910L Review

May 29, 14 Lenovo Vibe Z K910L Review

Posted by in Featured, Reviews

We were able to get a hold of the Vibe Z, also known as the Lenovo K910L, their first LTE-enabled smartphone. The unit came in a matte black and red box with a big “VIBE Z” on it. It reminded me so much of the ever reliable ThinkPad with the red joystick that I use for work. The accessories were far from the usual Lenovo accessories that I know of – they were white. The smartphone came with a wall charger, micro USB charging cable, in-ear headphones (with different-sized ear buds) and a user manual. Lenovo also provided a SIM card pin (not in photo) so hooray cause I didn’t have to use the back of my earring to insert my SIM card! The Vibe Z has a black face and its back is a plastic shell with a metallic finish. I like the texture of the back cover, it adds grip and it doesn’t make me feel that I have to be picky in selecting surfaces on where to put it down. Careful though, you can’t remove the back. The camera and the flash are slightly protruding. The bottom part and the sides are chrome-looking but are also made of plastic. It’s comfortable to hold and I feel that the size is just right. Surprisingly, it’s almost the size of a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but it’s thinner at 7.9mm thick and only weighs 147g. On top of the smartphone are the power/lock button and the audio jack. The left side has the volume keys and the right side has the sim card slot. The bottom part has the micro USB slot. The Vibe Z features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of (unfortunately) non-expandable storage. It has a 5.5inch full HD 1080p screen – such a large, rich screen great for browsing, sharing photos and watching videos. The Vibe Z has LTE, WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. It has a 3000mAh battery and also has a 13MP...

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8 Review

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8 Review   The Lenovo Yoga Tablet is an 8-inch Android device with a cylinder-looking base.  It has a kickstand at the back that swivels, allowing the tablet to stand and be adjusted. The cylinder base is of good weight and seems very solid when I have it horizontally upright. It isn’t flimsy at all. You can also just lay the tablet flat on a table, with its cylinder base elevated which makes it easier to type. The cylinder base could also act as a grip for when you want to hold the tablet vertically – perfect for those who like to read ebooks with one hand. Unfortunately, there’s no way to have the kickstand open and have the tablet stand vertically upright. It will only stand horizontally. The base isn’t also designed to just keep the bottom upright – it is where the 6000mAh battery is stored. The Yoga tablet has a slim main body that is millimeters thin and it packs a substantial battery. I was pleasantly surprised that with less than 5% of battery left, I was able to take a bunch of photos and play around with the phone before it went empty. The Lenovo Yoga tablet has a nice, dark matte finish. It is 8.4”x5.7” and it weighs 0.8lbs. On one side, there is an oversized power button that you can’t miss, which is convenient to press as well when you’re not looking. Right next to it is a micro-USB port. The tablet has a 1.6-megapixel front and 5-megapixel rear camera. You can find the 5-mpx camera at the back of the cylinder base. I must say, I end up covering this when I’m holding it horizontally. On the opposite end of the base is the 3.5mm earphones jack, the volume controls, and the microphone.   Features The 8-inch screen has a 1280×800 resolution and is still very clear even when angled. Inside this Yoga tablet is a quad-core MediaTek MT8389 processor running at 1.2GHz. It has...

JAYS t-JAYS One Dynamic High-Fidelity Earphones Review

Mar 02, 14 JAYS t-JAYS One Dynamic High-Fidelity Earphones Review

Posted by in Audio & Video, Featured, Reviews

I got a hold of these nice black JAYS t-JAYS in-ear headphones that are designed in Sweden. The packaging is matte and made out of hard plastic. I wasn’t sure if they were necessary for such small headphones though. Opening the package was frustrating – I had to remove a sticker at the bottom of the package and pry the hard plastic with a scissor so I can slide it open. I’ve always been a fan of in-ear because I always want the full-surround sound when I listen to my music. Also, regular earphones don’t fit snugly and always end up falling out of my ears so I really have to use the in-ear ones. What a surprise to see that these t-JAYS come with four pairs of ear buds, all different sizes. The package also includes a user manual. I normally don’t check out the manual – they’re headphones, one just plugs it to play. I flipped through it and they had pretty interesting information there about Sound Pressure, Decibels, Hz, and other things like maximum listening time for certain dB levels. I also found out through the user manual that it’s the t-JAYS three that comes with a travel case. The t-JAYS One headphones don’t have a carrying case or a travel pouch. Other things about the headphones: it comes with a thin round cable and it is adjustable. The whole length of the cable is 130cm but it could be split. The main cable is 60cm, while the extension is 70cm. This I liked a lot because sometimes I don’t like my cable too long – especially when I sit with my iPod on my lap or if I go out for a run with my iPod on an armband. It’s nice to have the option to shortening it without needing a cable organizer. What I didn’t like: Gosh, the cable sure does get tangled easily. The sound quality is excellent (make sure you pick the ear buds that fit you...

Marshall Monitor Headphones Review

Jan 01, 14 Marshall Monitor Headphones Review

Posted by in Audio & Video, Featured, Gadgets, Reviews

Christmas present shopping is over (phew), now it’s time to reward yourself with a present! I recently got a hold of the new Marshall Monitor headphones and wearing it makes me feel like such a rock star. These rock-inspired headphones remind me so much of the Marshall guitar amps I see in most gigs I go to. It gives me such a classic vibe that I’m not sure if these were based on an old design from decades ago. If these aren’t based on a vintage design, I say good job on the details! Unboxing I’m easily impressed by good packaging. I love how these headphones were packaged! It’s as simple as tan hard cardboard and just black printing. Inside the box, the headphones rest on foam and added cardboard with branding were placed on the right places, probably to protect the headphones while in the packaging. The box contains the black headphones, the 3 ft detachable double-ended coil cord, documentation, and a black canvas carrying pouch with the black Marshall logo printed on it. So tasteful! Even my cat, Salem seems to like it! Design The headphones are easily foldable and you can just stuff it in the carrying pouch. It doesn’t feel flimsy at all when I fold them. They’re all-black, just like the guitar amps, with the familiar “Marshall” white logo on each ear cup. These Marshall Monitor headphones are rubber coated but beneath it, it’s made of metal and plastic. It’s the right kind of heavy to make me feel like they won’t be easily destroyed. The ear cups were oval and over-the-ear. It covered my ears completely. The leather-like padding was very soft, comfortable and prevented unnecessary outside sounds while I listened to my music for hours. The outside hard plastic shell reminded me so much of the guitar amp finish. At the bottom of the ear cups are gold-plated output connectors to allow the user on which side they want to connect the cable to. Not a lot...

Logitech h540 USB Headset Review

Jul 31, 13 Logitech h540 USB Headset Review

Posted by in Audio & Video, Featured, Reviews

The first thing I thought of when I was unboxing the Logitech h540: That looks comfy. I’ve been issued a number of USB headsets in all the corporate companies I’ve been part of. They all had different shapes and sizes. Some had long microphones; others had big foamy ear muffs. As far as design and functionality are concerned, one of the most important things I look for in a USB headset is comfort. The Logitech H540 is one of the most comfortable headsets I’ve used while working for hours in front of my computer. The headset fits right and is adjustable, so I didn’t feel any tension while using it. This headset is plug and play and is very suitable for PC calls. The packaging even advertises Skype so I know that this is intended for long hours of chatting. I like the general look of the headset and it didn’t strike me at first as something built mainly for PC use. The piano black plastic surface and the padded leather-like material for the ears and head made it look very modern – a headset I don’t really mind using outside the workplace. The long cord is thick enough for when I accidentally tug it and comes with a Velcro strap for those neat-freaks like me who don’t like my gadget cords all over the place. The small microphone can be rotated down and it’s short enough that it doesn’t bother me at all. That’s a plus since it’s intended for long chats over Skype or other messenger clients. What I like about the microphone is that when I rotate it up, it’s somewhat hidden from view and it doesn’t really look like a PC headset. It has on-ear controls on the right side – volume buttons and a mute button that are big enough that I won’t have a problem searching if I need to immediately change the volume or mute the conversation. Another thing with the mute button – there is an...

Introducing the BlackBerry Q10

BlackBerry recently announced the availability of the new BlackBerry Q10 in the country. It is the first Blackberry 10 smartphone with the classic QWERTY keyboard re-engineered but still retaining the signature design. The back of the smartphone features a glass-weave material that is stronger than plastic and is contoured in such a way that laying it constantly on the table won’t scratch the back. Combine these: the QWERTY keyboard, glass-weave back surface, a stunning touchscreen display and the Blackberry 10 platform, it is definitely an elegant and ergonomic smartphone. The Q10 will be available in two colors – black and white, starting tomorrow, June 7, from authorized carriers and retailers in the country. Other things that caught my attention about this smartphone: It is powered by a 1.5Ghz Cortex-A9 dual-core processor It has a 2100 mAh Li-ion battery It has a 3.1-inch OLED touch display having a resolution of 720×720 px. It’s a pretty wide, rich screen The rear camera is 8mpx and the front camera is 2mpx. Useful for when you Skype your contacts (more on that later!). BlackBerry Z10 Review

Apr 28, 13 BlackBerry Z10 Review

Posted by in Featured, Mobile, Reviews

The BlackBerry Z10 is the first handset to use the new Blackberry 10 OS and is a fully touch-screen device. It can be viewed as the start of something new for BlackBerry. Something that they’re hoping can bring them back among the top of the smartphone market. Aside from having a full touch-screen, the Z10 now also runs on a regular data plan, removing the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS). Those who have always gotten confused with BIS versus the data plan won’t have to worry about understanding that thing anymore (I remember having to explain the difference of the data plan and the BIS to a lot of people in the past). So let’s check out what this smartphone has to offer and if it can propel BlackBerry to the top. Design and Functionality I like the way how this handset was very faithful to the design of the Playbook. It has the same subtle curved edge and a soft matte finish. The back had the same rubbery texture as well, with a silver Blackberry emblem in the middle. It felt solid and light. One can easily grip it. It didn’t feel cheap at all and its lightness doesn’t feel fragile, unlike those other smartphones that I can’t seem to take seriously because of their plastic properties. The top side of the unit has the Power/Lock button and the jack for earphones. The right side has the volume control buttons that also function as media play, pause, next, screenshot buttons. You can find the micro USB slot and the HDMI on the left side of the unit. You can swipe from all sides of the bezel. From the lock state, swiping from the bottom unlocks the phone. While your phone is unlocked, swiping from the bottom (or flicking up) will also bring you to your opened apps or multitask screen. Swiping from the top reveals the settings and connectivity screen (you can also put the phone to sleep this way). Swiping from the left...
