BlackBerry Leap Unboxing, First Impressions

Jun 20, 15 BlackBerry Leap Unboxing, First Impressions

Posted by in Gadgets, Mobile

The BlackBerry Leap, first announced at the MWC in March and launched in the country just last month, is a five-inch HD device that sports a Snapdragon chip, an eight-megapixel rear camera, and what is said to be unmatched security offered by the company’s own BlackBerry 10 OS. The folks from BlackBerry PH were able to lend us a unit for review, and here are our first impressions upon our unboxing. Opening its rather thick box gives us the standards — lots of user manuals and other papers in multiple languages, a USB to microUSB 2.0 cable, a wall charger adapter which uniquely puts its USB slot at the side, and the phone itself as the star of the show. To give you an idea of ports and slots, the power/lock button and the 3.5mm audio port sits atop of the device, and a removable cover flap hides the SIM and microSD card slots at the left side. Both slots use a push-push mechanism to keep them in place. At the right side of the Leap are three keys — the two long ones on top and bottom are used for controlling media volume, while the short one in the middle is a direct key to the BlackBerry Assistant which can be accessed with a long press. The microUSB port remains uncovered at the bottom and is positioned to be symmetrical with the power button at the top. At the back lays the glossy part where the eight-megapixel camera and LED flash standing out against the textured polycarbonate casing. The BlackBerry logo is also emphasized as it is adorned in a metallic silver finish, and the speaker can be seen at the lower-left side. Weighing in at 170 grams, users who hold the device for the first time may feel a bit of heft for some due to its rather huge 2800mAh battery capacity, which is non-removable by the way. Nonetheless, the build quality looks well-designed and feels solid. The textured back helps in handling...

Posted by in Accessories & Peripherals, Gadgets

We’re covering Cherry Mobile’s event this afternoon, and we’ve seen the local smartphone brand showcase new accessories to complement their devices such as new powerbank and speaker variants. CM’s Pyxis powerbank models now start at Php650 for a 4000mAh Li-Poly model, offering thin and lightweight power options. We also saw new variants of its bluetooth speakers that start for as low as Php990. This one particular model for instance, the Impulse, presents itself with a unique feature. The water-resistant Bluetooth speaker can also play music from your microSD card, act as a 5600mAh powerbank for your gadgets, and has a cool flashlight too. It has a Php2,890 price tag though — something you should consider given all of its dual-function feature. Rounding up our list is the Clicker, which can function as a tracking device when you misplace your phone, act as a Bluetooth shutter, and notify you of messages and calls. It also has an anti-theft feature, which notifies you if your phone has been away for more than five meters. The Pyxis Clicker will retail for Php790. That’s it for some of the nifty accessories we’ve seen today during the Cherry Mobile launch. Stay tuned for our continuing coverage. Related posts: Xiaomi Mi 16000mAh powerbank priced at Php...

Proof? Samsung’s new P3 external 2.5-inch HDD, which the cmpany touts as the “world’s thinnest and lightest” 4TB portable hard disk drive, packs a whooping 4TB of storage space in a very compact size, measuring only 19.85 mm in height and weighs 236 grams. This is certainly a feat for this huge of a storage space has been attained in rather big, bulky iterations. Unlike other dense EHDDs, the P3 only require a single USB cord to power itself and transfer data. Prices have not been announced for the P3 along with its other variants in different capacities, but Samsung says it will start to roll out starting later this month.
