Adobe is giving you Photoshop CS2 for free

Need a photo editing software on your machine? Want a legit copy of Adobe Photoshop? Well if you only need the basic tools for photo editing and want something legit, Adobe is making their over 7-year old Photoshop CS2 free for download. Actually, what Adobe did was disable the activation server for their CS2 products including Acrobat 7 due to a technical issue. Creative Suite also gives you Illustrator and InDesign by the way so can grab those as well. Be warned though that they no longer give support to these CS2 products so you’re on your own after installing. Support or no support, this sure beats the Photoshop 6.0 I have installed on my machine. Open-world survival horror online game DayZ now available on Steam

If you fell in love with franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto, you might want to check out this new title from Bohemia Interactive. The much awaited standalone version of the ARMA 2 mod was recently released through Steam as a surprise for fans of the open world and survival horror gaming genre. Joining the ranks of Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, and Starbound in Steam’s top games played roster, DayZ is currently peaking at 20,000 plus players just a day after its public alpha release. First exposed as a modification of a military sim first person shooter, DayZ attracted 2 million players with its survival theme, deviating from common arcade shooters with its permanent death and open world features. It garnered multiple awards such as Mod of the Year 2012 by PC Gamer and Game of the Year 2012 by PC PowerPlay. (Viewer’s Warning: The video contains excessive violence and themes not suitable for minors) Public Alpha Release Features The release comes with a minimalist approach, deviating from other shooters and survival horror games. The HUD only features a status text area, wherein words like “I am hungry” will appear, giving you an idea of the status of your character. Much like Minecraft, a quick-slot item bar can be located at the bottom of the screen. Aside from the HUD, clan and grouping features are not offered to encourage realistic and immersive experience. Players are only allowed to communicate if within realistic range, deviating from common and global chat features offered by most MMOs. Another deviation from arcade shooters and MMOs is the death notice where you can see players getting killed by other players. This was removed to increase immersion and anonymity of active players within the map. Much like the mod, the 225km map of Chernarus (now called Chernarus Plus) is retained, with new towns, buildings, and islands added to it. One great feature of the standalone version is the ability to enter all the buildings (yes, even that...

Samsung launches entry-level 840 EVO Solid-State Drives

We all know that SSDs or Solid-State Drives have been around for quite some time already and Samsung has been making their own ones since a few years ago. However, they just recently launched their consumer-friendly 840 EVO SSDs now that the market is mature for those wishing to get more speed out of their laptops. SSDs aren’t that popular because it’s pretty expensive for the amount of storage you’re getting. However, now that Ultrabooks and their hybrid drives are getting more mainstream, people are noticing the significant speed gain you can get out of an SSD drive compared to your traditional hard drive. Using SSD will also consume less power and is more lighter than your typical drive. Samsung Philippines brought the 840 EVO SSD 120 GB and 250 GB (500GB and 1TB might arrive next year). This drive uses SATA 6Gb/s already but is also compatible with 3Gb/s SATA. It comes with the Samsung Data Migration software which replicates your current drive to the SSD which you need to connect first via USB (SATA to USB cable not included). Once migration is done, you can replace your current drive with the Samsung EVO SSD with the confidence that all your files, settings, applications are intact. The 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD retails for Php5,390 while the 250GB goes for Php9,290 which is relatively now cheaper than two years ago. They are now available from PC stores like Infoworx, Complink, PCX, Acenet, PC Hub, Asianic, Villman, Thinking Tools and other Samsung IT authorized dealers. Microsoft recently launched the newest version of its flagship integrated development platform, the Visual Studio 2013. Aside from an improved IDE, Microsoft also presented an advanced collection of developer cloud tools and services. Tracey Trewin, Corporate Director for Visual Studio ALM  A couple of pretty cool features of the new IDE were the Peek Definition and the Code Lens. The Peek Definition (Alt + F12) allows you to navigate thru objects within your code without having to leave the current window. Likewise, the Code Lens displays the References and Unit Tests associated with your code/method. Alt +F2 displays the Reference dialog and ALT +F3 displays the Unit Tests dialog which allows you to view the status of your unit tests as well as Run them. Code Lens also allows you to view change sets and code history when it is linked to the TFS. Furthermore, the new Visual Studio introduced new tools for team collaboration, planning and project tracking as well as tools for diagnostics, release management and automatic deployment, allowing teams to streamline their development processes. Below are some of the new features of the Visual Studio 2013: The XAML editor now provides advances in IntelliSense, which is now also available for data binding, template binding, and resources. It also enables a more productive transition between design markup and code behind; including support for finding references, going to definition, and switching to the view model. Browser Link connects Visual Studio to one or more open modern browsers in an interactive development experience to keep them in sync with your markup changes without needing manual browser refreshes to see the changes you’re making. Office 365 Cloud Business Apps run in the cloud, taking advantage of the rich platform capabilities exposed by Windows Azure and Office 365. As cloud-based apps, they are available to a myriad of devices to aggregate data and services from in and out of an enterprise, and integrate user identities and social graphs. BenQ launches Flicker-free monitors, helps save your eyes

Eye health is one of the major concerns for a lot of people, especially those who are always working in front of the computer. In today’s digital world, almost everyone uses computers heavily. One of the most common problem is the Computer Vision Syndrome that is a result of long periods of exposure to computer monitors that causes headaches, blurred vision, redness and dryness of the eyes, eye fatigue and even myopia. Last November 5, 2013, BenQ launched the Flicker-free line of monitors that reduce the risks of eyestrain while enhancing work productivity. Flickering, or the flashing effect of the monitor is the effect of the LED backlight controller adjusting to the changes in the brightness level. This strains the human eye as the ciliary muscle adjusts to the invisible flickering resulting to the abovementioned eye problems. The new line of BenQ monitors feature a De-flickering Backlight Circuit Controller for zero-flicker viewing experience. Other ergo-related features of BenQ Flicker-free monitors include: Senseye Reading Mode, which gives a balanced contrast ratio and sharpness that is ideal for reading, stimulating reading actual books from a paperback print; Automatic Eye-Protect Sensor, which detects the ambient light and automatically adjusts the brightness level for optimized clarity; Height Adjustment Stand (HAS), which allows you to find the most appropriate viewing angle with the extensive height, tilt, pivot, stroke and swivel; The Smart Reminder, which reminds users to take breaks; and Anti-Glare Display, employing a matte-finished screen to help reduce the risks of eye strain further. Conventional vs BenQ flicker-free monitors General manager of the Technology Product Center of BenQ Peter Chen stressed out BenQ’s mission to "help create a better, healthier viewing experience" thus redesigning the controller to eliminate flickering and making a difference as a whole.
