“The world of technology companies hinges upon a sound internationally-accepted operational approach to meet the needs of customers globally,” said Richard Teo, president of Dell Philippines. “Establishing reliable processes and training our team members in accordance with these requirements is fundamental to the credibility of our company. The independent validation by ISO provides peace of mind to customers that Dell is committed to sound management practices that are thoroughly measured and evaluated in order to exceed customer satisfaction.”

To earn the ISO 9001:2008 certification, Dell was evaluated throughout the enterprise, from operations and information systems to accounting and human resources. The analysis included a thorough audit of systems, policies and practices governing operations, confirming that these processes are applied with a commitment towards ongoing improvement.

The scope of certification for Dell’s Philippine operations covers all provisions of customer service, support, sales operations and customer care for computers, technology products and solutions.

The ISO certification complements Dell’s stringent internal performance standards. Dell regularly conducts internal evaluations to ensure that all personnel and processes are in compliance with strict ISO quality control measures throughout every department.

Dell’s presence in the Philippines includes an office responsible for sales and marketing of Dell products, solutions and services in the Philippines; a customer contact center operation that provides technical and non-technical customer support services to consumers, small and medium businesses in the U.S., UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand; and Dell Services, which provides business process outsourcing services to the U.S. healthcare market.

NetSuite, the fastest growing financial management systems vendor in the world according to a Gartner study, just announced details on their SuiteAcademy that aims to teach NetSuite cloud solutions in college classrooms to prepare students to keep pace with 21st century business and computing trends.

Three universities in the country, Mapua Institute of Technology, De La Salle University and University of San Carlos, joins 13 other universities worldwide which includes UCLA and Purdue University to embrace “SuiteAcademy” which will put NetSuite software and professor developed curriculum in the hands of students.

NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson talks about developments and plans for their operations in the Philippines during the NetSuite Annual Media PressCon held earlier today

SAP which was the “in-thing” during my time had its days but NetSuite is now inf the forefront when it comes to cloud-based financials/ERP software suits mainly because being on the cloud avoids the hassles of systems integration, software upgrade and the high maintenance cost caused by on-premise software. With NetSuite, all you need is a web browser to keep track and/or manage your business whether it’s a small one or a multinational corporation. One of the strong suits of NetSuite is its localized taxation rules (includes Philippines) which further enhance the automation processes of the software. Imagine automatically filling up and printing an ITR form that’s compliant to the locality with ease.

NetSuite has been working with universities for years because higher education sales and accounting programs are increasingly recognizing that the same trends affecting the global business community are reflected in the classroom environment. SuiteAcademy gives students the same access to NetSuite software that companies have been benefiting for years. Combined with professor developed curriculum, students can expect to learn the entire business process end to end. Faculty new to the program can have access to online training and downloadable material, allowing them to develop custom content for their courses. Because NetSuite is delivered through the cloud, it can be accessed from anywhere on campus or anywhere in the world, and not just constrained to the confines of the universities computer lab.

“As cloud computing is on the cutting edge of the IT and business commnunities, and NetSuite is a leading cloud computing company located in Makati, we have developed courses using NetSuite’s technology to help us prepare our graduates for today’s and tomorrow’s business environment,” said Dr. Rey Vea, president and CEO of the Mapua Institute of Technology.

For more information about SuiteAcademy, please visit http://www.netsuite.com/suiteacademy.

I’m not exactly sure how many Android app development companies are there in the Philippines but I’m guessing not a lot. WideOut Technology Services is more known for their rich media production but we just learned that they’re now also delving into app development for Google’s Android OS.

For those who don’t know who WideOut is, they’re a service provider for online advertising, specializing in Google and DoubleClick’s platforms. In fact, they’re the only Google Certified Partner for Analytics in the country and is also DoubleClick’s Preferred Partner.

Late last month, they showed us one of their new capabilities during their Halloween Reanimation Bash, Android app development. They don’t really develop apps for the Android Market but what they specialize in are customized apps based on the clients needs.

But they can’t really sell without showing anything right? So what they did is create this events management and monitoring app that they also used for their Halloween Bash.

What this app simply does is help organizers and event-goers up-to-date info regarding the event. During registration, each guest is given a sticker badge with a QR code. For simplicity sake, this QR code is read by the bartender every time beer is ordered so the organizers (and guest) can keep track of how many beers are left. If they need to replenish the stock or whatever. Aside from counting beers, the app also informs people on what part of the program they’re already on via live updates. Is it time to vote for the best costume, or is it time for the grand raffle so for those who are outside the venue can finish their cig and get inside.

It’s a relatively simple app but it has its own use especially for big corporate events, conventions or seminars with a lot of different rooms and schedules. It’s not an actual app that everybody can use but it shows how WideOut can help you with your specific Android app needs.

For more info about WideOut Technology Services, head over to their website at http://www.wideout.com or you may reach them at marketing@wideout.com.

Nokia announced yesterday plans to align its global workforce to reduce its Devices & Services non-IFRS operating expenses by 1 billion euros. Part of its plans is a strategic collaboration in which Nokia would outsource its Symbian software activities and transition about 3,000 employees to Accenture. In addition, Nokia also plans to reduce its global workforce by about 4,000 employees by the end of 2012, with the majority of reductions in Denmark, Finland and the UK.

All employees affected by the reduction plans can stay on the Nokia payroll through the end of 2011. Nokia expects personnel reductions to occur in phases until the end of 2012, linked to the roll-out of Nokia’s planned product and services portfolio. During this period, Nokia intends to ramp up its capacity for the development of Nokia smartphones based on the Windows Phone platform, the company’s broad range of mobile phones and its services portfolio.

“At Nokia, we have new clarity around our path forward, which is focused on our leadership across smart devices, mobile phones and future disruptions,” said Stephen Elop, Nokia president and CEO. “However, with this new focus, we also will face reductions in our workforce. This is a difficult reality, and we are working closely with our employees and partners to identify long-term re-employment programs for the talented people of Nokia.”

“We are offering those who are losing their jobs a range of options, from individual re-employment support and re-training to making investments to promote innovation and working with a variety of partners to create new opportunities,” Elop continued.

This collaboration also includes plans for Accenture to provide mobility software, business and operational services around the Windows Phone platform to Nokia and other ecosystem participants. Under the proposed agreement, Accenture would become a preferred partner for Nokia’s smartphone development activities, as well as a preferred provider of services.

“Mobility is a key area for Accenture,” said Marty Cole, chief executive, Accenture Communications and High Tech group. “This collaboration with Nokia will enhance our ability to help clients across multiple industries leverage mobility to advance their business agendas. It is a real win-win for Accenture and Nokia”.

“This collaboration demonstrates our ongoing commitment to enhance our Symbian offering and serve our smartphone customers,” said Jo Harlow, executive vice president for Smart Devices, Nokia. “As we move our primary smartphone platform to Windows Phone, this transition of skilled talent to Accenture shows our commitment to provide our Symbian employees with potential new career opportunities.”

This doesn’t really translate to more jobs in Accenture Philippines from collaboration.

For those who don’t know, Accenture and Nokia have been working together since 1994. In October 2009, Accenture acquired Nokia’s professional services unit that provides engineering and support of the Symbian operating system to mobile device manufacturers and service providers, and which then served as a key building block in Accenture’s Mobility services portfolio.

At the annual International ICT Awards held last week, Cognizant, a leading provider of consulting, technology, and business process outsourcing services, has won the Best New BPO Locator of the Year in the Philippines for 2011.

Instituted in 2007 by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (CanCham), the International ICT Awards honor individuals and organizations for outstanding performance in promoting the country as one of the top BPO destinations around the globe. The awards aim to encourage innovation and excellence among BPO service providers.

Cognizant was chosen for the top honor in the Best New BPO Locator of the Year category based on its size, growth and diversity of the business and its clients; quality; depth and breadth of competencies; management capability; and commitment to developing people, social responsibility, and industry support.

Cognizant’s global delivery center in Manila provides high-end operational business process services, IT Infrastructure Services, and other offerings to global clients, including one of the world’s largest communications companies and a leading global financial services institution.

“As one of the world’s fastest growing destinations for business process outsourcing, the Philippines has become a leading player in the booming ICT industry,” said Gillian Joyce Virata, Senior Executive Director and Officer-in-Charge of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines. “We are delighted at the way Cognizant has grown in Manila while engaging actively with academia and the local community, allowing them to benefit from the deep business insight and global best practices that have enabled Cognizant to achieve industry-leading growth. Cognizant is creating high-value jobs, enhancing the local talent pool, driving economic progress, and showcasing the Philippine ICT industry to the rest of the world.”

“We are proud to have won this prestigious accolade just 17 months after we opened our global delivery center in Manila in October 2009,” said R Chandrasekaran, President and Managing Director of Global Delivery at Cognizant. “We have steadily grown our presence and investment in the Philippine capital. Our Manila center is an important part of our integrated global delivery capability and growth strategy underpinned by our approach of bringing the best talent in the world to our clients.”

IT-BPO (Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing), the Philippines’ sunshine industry, was reported to have gained global leadership in voice BPO services or call centers and is expected to shine even brighter in 2011.

The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) with its government counterpart, the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) project that the Philippine IT-BPO industry could yield about US$11 billion in revenues for the year 2011, which would be a 20% increase from 2010’s estimated revenue of US$9 billion. BPAP and CICT also project that the industry could create an additional 84,000 jobs next year, bringing the total number of IT-BPO workers in the Philippines to around 610,000.

The very positive 2011 industry projections from the industry’s association and government arm comes after international consultant Everest Research declared the Philippines as global number one in the voice BPO services sector and measured its yield at US$5.7 billion in revenues compared with India’s US$5.58 billion in 2010.

BPAP CEO Oscar Sañez said, “The key to achieving the US$11 billion goal is aggressive marketing both locally and internationally. We have to increase the awareness of our potential employees of job opportunities in IT and BPO companies, including those in the knowledge process outsourcing and other non-voice sectors. We also have to improve our visibility internationally to market new services in new territories.

“In line with our initiatives to reach our targets, the industry is thankful to President Aquino for pledging a fresh PhP62 million fund for the industry when he inaugurated the new IBM facility in Quezon City on December 1”, Sanez added.

In the next 5 years, the global non-voice services sector (including such services as financial services, health care, legal outsourcing, animation, and game development) is expected to grow by as much as 25% a year, while the voice BPO market is expected to double in size to US$50 billion.

For his part, CICT Chairman Ivan Uy said, “With seamless government and private sector support and cooperation, I am almost certain that the 2011 industry growth figures can be easily be achieved.

“The CICT will be working very closely with BPAP and the rest of the industry players in implementing the President’s directive and mandate for the new PhP62 million promotions budget,” Uy added.

“We congratulate Stream Global Services for bringing this coveted award home to the Philippines. This recognition validates the hard work and direction the Philippine offshoring and outsourcing (O&O) industry has taken over the years. We’re looking forward for Stream to continuing to provide excellent contributions to the development and application of ICT,” said Oscar Sanez, chief executive officer of Business Processing Association of the Philippines, the umbrella organization for the Philippines O&O industry.

“We’re very grateful to be awarded ASOCIO ICT Best Practice Award 2010. It is certainly exciting to be recognized for the hard work and dedication we provide to our clients,” said Jared Morrison, Stream’s vice president and Philippines country manager. “By working with our clients to provide a safe and enjoyable online experience for their customers, we help increase their brand loyalty. When our clients businesses are successful so are we. We are thrilled to have these accomplishments recognized by such an esteemed group as the ASOCIO.”

Stream earned the award for its work with one of the largest global internet service providers (ISPs) in the world. As part of the client program, Stream played a vital role in the design, development and implementation of the client’s online content moderation and skills validation best practice.

The program contributed to the overall safety and security of online community by helping identify and convict 15 online predators over a period of three years. Moreover, it reliably surpassed client’s quality and accuracy and service level KPIs while amplifying total transactions completed.

Stream’s established services centers in the Philippines guarantees the safety and security of the client’s U.S and U.K online account users.

In a press briefing earlier, NetSuite president and CEO, Zach Nelson introduced their NetSuite OneWorld PH which is the first cloud-based ERP suite made specifically for the Philippine market.

The NetSuite OneWorld is the first and only on-demand system to deliver real-time global business management and financial consolidation to mid-sized companies with multinational operations. And it does all of these in the cloud which means you don’t have to invest in servers, infrastructure, security, software patches and upgrades because NetSuite will handle all of those things for you.

The NetSuite OneWorld PH, is a fully localized version of their OneWorld. It has all the accounting rules, usage conventions, statutory and regulatory requirements of the Philippine Market including tax reporting requirements by the BIR. It is the perfect solution for local businesses to manage their domestic and global businesses in the cloud, whether they are locally headquartered or a division of a larger, multi-national enterprise.

Zach Nelson further emphasized that with their cloud solution, businesses will drastically reduce their operational costs while improving productivity.
