Hands-on with the Samsung DA-F61 portable NFC speaker

With portable wireless speakers getting more popular these days, especially NFC-capable ones, Samsung recently launched their own DA-F61 NFC speakers. This speaker was actually introduced early this year and was made available around April but in case people missed it and looking for a good portable speaker for Christmas, here is the Samsung DA-F61 again.

The DA-F61 speakers not only look good but sounded really good when we tested it using various types of music. This speaker is crafted with a stylish aluminum chassis that gives you a breathe of old school and at the same time deliver great acoustics.

On one side you’ll find the simple controls for this speaker. There’s the volume knob (which you can also control via your music device), the Function button which allows you to select different music sources (TV, laptop, music player), Bluetooth button for pairing, Bass button for extra “œoomph”, and the power button.

At the back there’s the 3.5mm audio jack, the power port, and the a USB port you can use to charge other devices. The DA-F61 can go up to 10 hours of music playback on a single charge by the way.

This speaker is crafted with Neodymium, a metallic element common to great-sounding audio devices. It also has a Passive Bass Radiator for controllable bass levels and APTx which allows high-quality codec playback if you have them on your player. It also supports SoundShare which is found on some Samsung TVs that can project the audio into the speaker wirelessly.

I was able to hear great sound reproduction from this speaker using different sources via NFC or Bluetooth. Even at a high volume, music was still crisp and detailed. The Bass function gave the low a bit of power without really drowning the mids and you can feel some slight thumping coming from the speaker. It sounded surprisingly good for a simple-looking speaker.

The Samsung DA-F61 is available for Php9,900 and as a limited offer, if you buy a Samsung LED TV (at least 32″), you can have this speaker for Php4,990.
