IDC: Android garners 68% of market in Q2 2012, Blackberry and Symbian continues to fall
Google’s Android continues to dominate the smartphone wars as it garnered 68.1% market share of all smartphones shipped in Q2 2012 according to the the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

Apple’s iOS naturally comes in 2nd with 16.9% market share, a drop from last year’s 18.8% on the same quarter. However, interest in the iPhone is expected to peak up again once the latest iteration of the smartphone is announced as early as next month.
Things are not running so hot in the BlackBerry and Symbian camp which made up less than 10% of smartphone shares. They experienced a 40.9% and 62.9% drop respectively from last year.
RIM’s response is to delay the new BlackBerry 10 smartphones which was expected this year, to a 2013 release. Nokia, on the other hand, is banking on Windows Phone OS which enjoyed a 115.3% increase in shipped units from last year (no surprise there).
