Boot Camp

Yes, it’s official. Intel-based Apple computers will run Windows XP. And Apple will give you the drivers and will help you install XP on your machine (original, standalone installation copy needed, though). The system, dubbed Boot Camp, should be included in the upcoming Mac OS X Leopard, but a public Alpha edition has been released.

More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today.

Now this is earth-shaking news!

Won’t even work on a Mac Mini. Try new iMac or MacBook Pro. That’ll set you back at least twice the cost of a mini.

    Have. To. Resist.

This is nice marketing ploy by Apple.

I believe that this makes it easier for Apple newbies. They can have the comfort of knowing that they can boot to MS Windows at any time.

Then a few weeks down the road, the user will simply forget the MS Windows partition. Then a few months down the road, the user will be forced to erase the MS Windows partition to recover the space.

I think it was just a matter of time given the Intel jump.

For Apple, I think it was a product integrity issue. They would rather do this themselves than leave it to the hackers. At least they protect the integrity of their hardware.

Hey! The new Mac Minis have Intel solo processors naman a. Why are they excluded from this?

I’m sorry. I stand corrected. The Mac Minis have Intel Core Duo processors also… not core solos.
