Microsoft’s Developer Showdown is officially open

If you’ve been to Web Ramp Up last Thursday (2/26) for Microsoft’s Dev Days then you’ve probably heard about the launching of “œBest of the Best: Developer Showdown“ that is brought to us by Microsoft Philippines and Smart Communication.

This competition encourages local developers to create innovative web and mobile applications using Microsoft’s latest technologies (Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight, etc.) shown during Web Ramp Up.

This is only open to all professional developers who attended Web Ramp Up. If you missed it here in Manila then you can fly over to Cebu by March 13. All you need is a team of four and head over to MSDN Philippines to sign up.

As for the prize, it will be a Grand Developer showcase which includes P300,000 cash prize, a high-end laptop with P30,000 worth of prepaid Smart Bro load, 2 high-end phones and more.

Only 15 teams will qualify to compete on the pre-finals day with their entries based on the following criteria:

50% – Potential for Widespread Use on Mobile and Web
20% ““ Usability and User Experience ““ Next Generation
10% ““ Use of Microsoft Technologies
10% ““ Software Functionalities and Quality

Each team will present their entry to the board of judges ala thesis defense. To add more excitement, the selected teams will be housed in Fully Booked at Bonifacio Global City for 2 days to work on their project.

Registration and submission of entries is until March 18 only. For more information, you can call (02) 752-8843.

    Oh.. that’s nice…

This competition encourages local developers to create innovative web and mobile applications using Microsoft’s latest technologies (Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight, etc.) shown during Web Ramp Up.

UNFORTUNATELY, the event winner used FLASH and just ASP.Net for their application. Definitely not the latest. 😀

Unfortunately the winner was using Adobe Flash.

Well, the event ended last Jun 27, 2009 3pm
and guess what application is the winner?
    REAL (tech) Description:
    – Asp.Net
    – ADOBE Flash (for the animation and other stuff of the GAME [yes it is a game PET Society-Like game]).

Judge’s Description (upon announcing the winner):
    – FULL Microsoft Latest Technology (oh really?)
    – Smart and Microsoft will be having profits out of it.. (how the heck MS will earn from that? isn’t it only SMART that will earn from it?)
    – Potential for Widespread use (really (again)?).

Projects: P.E.T.S. (Pets Enthusiasts Tourney Smash!)
The project is about having a digital community wherein users can nurture their own digital pets and use them to interact with other users within the network by means of battling, pet interactions, sharing, buying and trading of items. Interactions will be done through mobile phones and an online widget to greatly improve users’ experience.
