Motorola mobile phones in the Philippines

I heard about Motorola mobile phones making a comeback in the Philippines a few months ago but it seems that the company is not reaching out to the usual members of the media, including online.

Anyway,  I saw their display booth at SM Mall of Asia (beside the skating rink) and this one is being handled by MemoXpress. They told me the Motorola phones they are carrying are not grey units but actual ones supplied by Motorola Philippines. They’re not the exclusive carrier either so expect the phones to be carried by other local cellular shops.

The top devices they are carrying include:

  • Motorola Razr (their slimmest) – P27,500
  • Motorola Defy Plus (rugged Android) – P16,100
  • Motorola Xoom (10-inch tablet) – P26,400
Aside from their Android offerings, they also carry different Motorola feature phones.

Too bad they don’t have a GSM version of their Razer Maxx yet. Many of today’s smartphones can do almost everything you would want them to except take the children to school or wash the dishes, but battery life tends to suck. The Razer is a sweet looking phone with the gorilla glass-protected SUPERAMOLED screen in front and the Kevlar in back, but its battery is average at best. The Razer Maxx would negate the need to buy a portable power pack for at least one of your devices, or even allow you to use it as a mobile hotspot for a whole day!

too bad no droid pro plus…

It actually seems like Moto is passing up on an opportunity here.

Their Droid series (Milestone brand outside the US) targets business users and people who want to switch to Android without gicing up the security of a physical keyboard. Here in the Philippines, they only have the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro phones to contend with for that market share.

Android phones with non-sliding keyboards (Chacha and Galaxy Y Pro) obviously don’t count. 😛
