New Scheme for Globe’s Unlimited SMS service

I have been using Globe’s unlimited text messaging service for quite some time and when it expired already, I was surprised with the new rates. I tried sending the usual message to 2870 every time I am requesting for the said service then, I got the “exciting details”. Here are the rates for your reference:

All-day unlimited texting (UNLITXT20, UNLITXT 40, UNLITXT 80)

  • P20 – 1 day
  • P40 – 2 days
  • P80 – 4 days

For the heavy day-time texters (UNLITXTD15, UNLITXTD30)

  • 15 – 1 day
  • 30 – 2 days

For the heavy night-shift texters (UNLITXTN10, UNLITXTN20)

  • P10 – 1 day
  • P20 – 2 days

Unlimited GHP-GHP Texting + P0.75 SMS to other networks (TXTPLUS25, TXTPLUS50)

  • P25 – 1 day
  • P50 – 2 days

In order to get the most out of this service, you should just get the best variant that suits your SMS lifestyle. Any comments on the new pricing scheme?

When did this price change take effect? Damn! I was enjoying my P50 unlimitxt for 5 days.. Guess Globe’s really struggling on the proce war with Smart…

I didn’t expect this from globe. I’m actually waiting for their answer to smart’s Php35=100 sms across all networks. But they opt to increase their unlimited rates.

    Brilliant move?

    @tecbarrera,

my unlimited text got expired this morning. instead of sending a warning, they let me choose between unlitxt 20/40/80

    @ron,

i’m not sure if this is a brilliant move from them. i guess this will make people think when they should use the unlimited text messaging service or perhaps, switch to another network :D

P20 a day huh? Double what it used to be… Grr… Not happy. Has anyone noticed that the ’share-a-load’ service doesn’t seem to be working either anymore? Tried sending load to a my brother two nights ago and it didn’t work. Tsk tsk Globe.. The shame.

Maybe they want to shift users to IMEVRYWHR instant messaging. But not everyone has a Nokia S60 phone!

[...] Speaking of SMS, I just heard of Globe’s new scheme for their Unlimited SMS service, and all I know is that people are going to complain (in fact, I got a message earlier about boycotting this new scheme), especially for those who bought a Globe SIM just because of their Unlimitxt service (namely, me). Comparing the highest and longest rate for all day unlimited texting, the old Php50/5days is now Php80/4days. From Php10/day to Php20/day! That’s not right. Okay, so they also have the unlimited day and unlimited night texting…say I turned the Day Unlimited, that’s Php30 for 2 days, and then Night Unlimited, that’s Php20 for 2 days…that’s Php50 for only 2 days! HELLO?! [...]

Apparently, this price hike was caused by speculation that politicians will abuse the unlimitxt service to spam out their upcoming election campaigns. Hmm… they haven’t even begun to serve their terms and already they’re causing us tax-payers financial grief!

I really doubt that politicians would campaign via spam SMS. Where would they get the numbers?

I think it’s because Globe (and Smart) unlimited SMS has finished serving it’s purpose, which is slowing down Sun Cellular.

Since it seems that Sun Cellular is no longer growing, they can afford to raise prices.

Sorry, but I’ll have to disagree with you Miguel… I really don’t think Sun has anything to do with it. Sun would’ve hit their upper limit of subscribers anyway. Their cellsites can’t support as many users as Globe and Smart, and will eventually get saturated resulting in very poor quality service.. It’s only a matter of time. If ever, the price war would’ve only been between Smart and Globe. True, it would be difficult for the politicians to get their hands on the database, but it’s definitely not impossible or unlikely. Do keep in mind that a lot of these politicians have their own businesses outside of the political arena, each with their own databases. There are ways and means. ;)

I think that SUN is not a bad network. They started the unlimited plans. Their current system can support 4M subscribers.

If you live in the city, then you will not have problems. Then switch to sun because its the best alternative to Globe and Smart.

Globe now sucks, my friends switched to Globe `coz they said that sticking with Smart would be too expensive but hey, dahil dito hindi na kami mag switch sa Globe. Smart nalang kayo..

i’ve been a loyal globe user since the handyphone was introduced in the market in the 90’s

i grew up and stayed loyal to globe no matter what advantage other networks claimed and offered

BUT I REALLY FELT BETRAYED BY GLOBE!!!

they didn’t even warn us about the increase
to think that i had just convinced my friend to switch to globe on january 30, they increased unlimitxt rates on february 1.

Who knows, maybe Globe wants unlimited users to switch because they are not making (enough) money off them.

Globe used to be a “premium” brand anyway, maybe they want to bring it back.

Doesn’t look like this is a strategic push for Globe in trying to shift customers to IMEVRYWHERE… Pricing is more or less the same…

    Subscriptions to myGlobe IMEVRYWHR:
    1 day = P 20.00
    7 days = P 120.00
    30 days = P 500.00

    This just in!

“NTC ordered Globe Telecoms to suspend its new UnliTXT rates in response to the complaint filed by TXTPower. “This is good news and we hope the order becomes permanent,” said TXTPower spokesperson Anthony Ian Cruz. “This is a blow against those who abuse consumers.””

Miguel, I think the NTC considered it abuse because of the way Globe tried to swindle subscribers with their wording on the new pricing scheme. They tried to make it sound like they were actually offering the consumer something good, something that improved on what they were already offering, when in truth, they’re raising their prices 100% and ripping us all off. Hehe.. nice try Globe.

Goodbye Globe and hello Smart. Not because of the Unlimited Text Rate increase, I don’t use it anyway. :P

But if you’re moving to Smart… what’s stopping them from canceling their promo? Just assume that SMS is one peso per message, if it’s cheaper than that, then it’s a promo. (Which Globe told the NTC)
