Nokia formally launched the N8 entertainment smartphone

Just got back from the Nokia’s launch of their best entertainment smartphone yet, the N8. One lucky guy was able to win one in a raffle and he would get his on October 23 along with those who pre-ordered the phone. The N8 is slated to be widely available early November.

Nokia N8

The Nokia N8 is an odd-looking phone design-wise with a tapered top and bottom edge. It’s not as sleek as the C7 but is one excellent entertainment phone. Nokia highlighted its HD video recording capabilities on its 12MP camera as well as HD playback with Dolby Digital Surround Sound which you can also hook up to your LCD TV via HDMI cable. I’m really impressed with the clarity and sharpness of its 3.5″ AMOLED screen.

It is powered by their latest Symbian^3 OS and the home screens are now highly customizable with lots of widgets and other options. Response isn’t as snappy at times especially when video editing while other apps are open at the same time but overall, the N8 is quite responsive.

One thing that makes this N8 a remarkable entertainment smartphone is the WebTV apps from channels like E!, BBC and CNN. Also, starting Oct. 23, you can watch episodes on How I Met Your Mother and Gossip Girl through the Solar WatchNow! widget. It’s free from the Ovi store and all you need is a broadband connection.

Just like other Nokia smartphones the Nokia N8 comes with free Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation. The latest version of the Ovi Store will be made available on the N8 first and will give you access to more apps including popular games like Need for Speed Shift and Angry Birds.

If you want to pre-order the Nokia N8, you can do so until Oct. 19 only. Just head to http://www.nokia.com.ph/own8 and pre-order for only Php23,699. If you belong to the first 800 to reserve, you’ll get a free 16GB USB thumb drive.

  • hmmmmm!!!! tempting!

  • Sir compared po ba sa Android, hndi ba mabilis pagsawaan ang N8? :O

    • depends din sa apps and kung pano gamitin ang phone. kung video and photos hindi ka magsasawa sa N8 pero kung puro apps/games ka… mas maraming choice android so hindi madaling magsawa.

      • Eh kung more on texting tapos konting apps lang?

        • Android and Nokia can do texting well naman eh. depende na lang kung ano mag-fit sa budget mo.
