Nokia Lumia 710 Windows Phone appeals to the trendy

The second Windows Mobile 7.5 phone announced at Nokia World 2011 is the Lumia 701 which is more affordable than the Lumia 800 and caters more to the youth with its trendy colors with replaceable back panels.

If the Nokia Lumia 800 looks more serious and industrial, the Lumia 710 has a more fun and stylish appeal. It’s a bit longer than the Lumia 800 but narrower on the side and lighter at 126g with its plastic build. It comes in either black or white but the back panels can be interchanged with a variety of colors: black, white, cyan, fuchsia and yellow.

Don’t let its look fool you though because inside it still packs quite a punch. It has the same 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor and 3.7″ display (800 x 480 resolution) as that of the Lumia 800. To achieve a lower price, it doesn’t have the Gorilla Glass and AMOLED display (ClearBlack TFT only) and Carl Zeiss Optics however. It also has physical Windows Phone buttons instead of a full touch panel display.

Other features include a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with a LED flash, 8GB internal storage, Bluetooth 2.1 and the usual GPS and WLAN.

What’s missing is NFC (not that you’ll miss it though), a microSD expansion slot, HDMI out, Flash support on browser, and a front-facing camera. So what happened to Skype eh?

Anyway, according to Nokia, the Lumia 710 will first appear in India, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan towards the end of the year. Other countries will have it next year. It will cost about $375 so that roughly translates to about Php16k before taxes. Even at 20k, it’s still affordable for a 1.4GHz smartphone.

At 16k this phone would be nice but that’s without taxes. if this reaches 20k then it might not sell well.

  2. The good news is, the first generation WP7 phones, which had the OLD 1 GHz Snapdragon processors stand up well, even compared to dual-core Android phones. The new 1 GHz Snapdragon processors are about 20 – 35% faster than the old one, and this one runs on the 1.4 GHz variant. Expect awesome performance from this phone at a relatively low price. ;-)
