Open Source Bill Filing Sept. 12
I’m no open source zealot, but I’m no software salesman’s fool either (having been a software salesman years ago). The Philippines needs to get over its government-backed, academically-reinforced, cubicle-farmed addiction to pricey proprietary bloatware.
That’s why I’m glad Teddy Casiño’s open source bill, having moved from idea to draft, is set for filing Tuesday.
Choke on this bill, Bill.

I read through the draft bill. While it is a good start, the bill seems to restrictive in that it forces the use of FOSS onto schools and government. And the sole determinant is cost. Not functionality, not design, not security.
FOSS is “free” as in “freedom of choice,” not “free” as in “free beer.”

hmm. This post is 3 days old and I was anticipating a lively discussion, pro, con and wahtever flavors in between.
Does this mean that the FOSS bill and FOSS in general is not a buzz generator.
What does the apparent silence mean?
I think people here don’t care about the political stuff.
i still prefer windows for its functionality, not for me but for internet cafe users.. most of ‘em doesnt even know how to launch MS words, run the calculator, save their documents, find their articles in google and a bunch of stuffs that i find utterly disturbing.. its like this survey i answered yesterday, i would rather have a loan with a higher interest rate in a bank who can lend me one rather than a bank that offers low interest rate but requires a dreadful and a handful list of requirements.. the keyword here is need..
