Philippines, get ready for World of Tanks

Last April 26, we were invited to the Southeast Asian launch of World of Tanks in Singapore. World of Tanks is the first and only team-based MMO action game dedicated to armored warfare. Forget about soldiers, guns and bombs, you will be controlling tanks this time around.

With over 24 million gamers already playing World of Tanks, online game developer and publisher Wargaming.net has high expectations for growth in Southeast Asia as it launches the award-winning massively multi-player online game (MMO) to Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. Wargaming.net expects to have 1 million gamers onboard within the first year of the SEA server.

Along with the expansion of servers to accommodate SEA players better, Wargaming.net will also provide local language translations to the four countries mentioned, and local support for events and in-game special events will be available in the near future.

Viktor Kislyi

Wargaming.net CEO, Viktor Kislyi described ‘World of Tanks’ simply as like Counter-Strike but using tanks! The tanks in the game are based on historical research of more than 150 World War tanks, ranging from American, German, Russian, French and Chinese. Taking precision characteristic of tanks from its Appearance, Firepower, Speed, Armor or Aiming abilities, the gameplay is very flexible as every tank has its advantage and disadvantages.

Victor Kislyi also said that the gameplay is very easy as the concept of using a tank is very simple to grasp. Getting in-game items is achievable even if you keep on losing, maintaining the level of enthusiasm as each game only lasts an average of 5-10 minutes. Also, the CEO highlighted that compared to other MMOs, World of Tanks is based on history where males ages 12-45 are the main audience, as compared to fantasy based MMOs and their mythical creatures only targetting a smaller age group.

Lastly, Kislyi highlighted that the gameplay of World of Tanks is purely server based, unlike other MMOs where some calculations are done in the player’s side making it vulnerable to hacks / bots. A very nice move for World of Tanks as cheats like “aim bots” or “world vision hacks” are rampant causes of players quitting certain games.

That’s it for now, we will post a review of the game itself next time.
