Samsung Galaxy Camera, 21x-zoom Android camera

While the Samsung Galaxy Camera has already been launched last month, it will only reach the stores this December. This device is primarily a camera but with a smartphone’s capabilities, well except for making calls.

Samsung Galaxy Camera 1

The Samsung Galaxy Camera may be a bit bulky for a point and shoot camera but it’s packed with features not seen from your typical digital camera. The body is fairly thick at 19.1mm and it weighs 300g. You’ll get an optically stabilized 21x zoom lens on a 16-megapixel sensor with this camera.

Contributing to the size is the vibrant 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD protected by Gorilla Glass 2 where you will do most, if not all of your tweaking as this camera lacks your typical dials. All you have on top is the zoom lever around the shutter release, the power button, and also a built-in pop-up flash.

Samsung Galaxy Camera 3

What makes this camera feature-packed and flexible is the Android Jelly Bean running the show. Aside from the usual camera settings, you can get apps that can interact your photos, or just plain apps or games you can play with when not using this as a camera. The camera has a 8GB internal storage but you’ll mostly want to store your photos/videos on a microSD.

Samsung Galaxy Camera 4

Being a smart camera, you’ll have different transfer options available to you. You can slap a SIM into it to connect to the internet, there’s also a built-in WiFi, and finally there’s the regular cabled way of connecting via microUSB. You can event send text messages on this camera.

Samsung Galaxy Camera 5

As for the price, the Samsung Galaxy Camera will retail for Php23,990 as it becomes available on the 1st week of December. At that price you should already be expecting prosumer level of P&S so you have to weigh if you’re willing to pay premium to have Android capabilities on your camera.

  • Really amazing how powerful and versatile the Android platform is and how easily it can be adapted to control a device that it wasn’t exactly intended for. Back with the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, Android wasn’t technically intended to be used with tablets just yet, but they found a way to make it work. Now if they’d only do something about that 23,990 price tag 😛
