Sony first to out 84-inch 4K TV, the Bravia XBR-84X900

84-inch LED TVs are already a feast for the eyes but an 84-inch 4K TV? Some brands call it UHD or Ultra High Def while some call it Quad HD. For Sony it’s simply 4K TV for the 3,840 x 2,160 resolution of its Bravia XBR-84X900 which is already available in the market. We just experienced watching on this one last week and it was just surreal, like you’re in your own private theater.

Nearly 75% of all 4K digital cinema theaters use Sony technology and the Bravia XBR-84X900 with its newly-developed XCA8-4K chip will bring the movie theater experience in your own home.

At an 84-inch display, you would definitely want an ultra-high resolution to preserve the sharpness of high-def videos. While we are still stuck with Full HD (2K res) videos, what this Bravia 4K TV does is upscale 1080p videos (or even DVDRips) to maximize the huge display.

You know what else is good to watch on an 84-inch TV? 3D flicks! Sitting at a comfortable angle, the whole screen will cover your field of vision and this makes 3D movies more immersive. We watched a 3D trailer of the Amazing Spider-Man and it was better than watching it in 3D theaters in my opinion. Sony also let go of those battery-powered 3D glasses and went with the light and comfortable passive 3D glasses.

This Bravia XBR-84X900 also supports SimulView games by the way. You and a buddy can play a two-player PS3 game (with SimulView) on the same TV but with completely separate full screen views using a pair of special glasses.

What about sound? This TV has front-facing, 2-way, 10-unit speakers which totals to 50W. You’ll get soft dome tweeters, mid-range units and four subs on both sides of the TV. Sony’s S-Force Front Surround 3D technology will simulate 5.1 sound for that total viewing experience.

All of these things sounds good right? The TV will even look nice sitting in your spacious living room. But how much damage are we talking about? The Sony Bravia XBR-84X900 retails for a cool Php1.2 million. Can’t hurt to dream.

1.2M for a TV? Meh. I’ll just wait for the prices to go down in a few years.
