HP Launches Moonshot System for Social, Mobile, Cloud and Big Data

HP recently unveiled the world’s first commercially available HP Moonshot system, delivering compelling new infrastructure economics by using up to 89 percent less energy, 80 percent less space and costing 77 percent less, compared to traditional servers. Today’s mega data centers are nearing a breaking point where further growth is restricted due to the current economics of traditional infrastructure. HP Moonshot servers are a first step organizations can take to address these constraints. HP has continued to push the boundaries of technology and innovation by ushering in a paradigm shift that paved the way for the first “software defined” server that enables enterprises to optimize their servers based on specific workload needs. Built from HP’s industry-leading server intellectual property (IP) and 10 years of extensive research from HP Labs, the company’s central research arm, HP Moonshot delivers a significant improvement in energy, space, cost and simplicity. The new HP Moonshot system is the second-generation server from HP’s Project Moonshot. This new class of server is engineered to address the IT challenges created by social, cloud, mobile and big data. HP Moonshot servers are built from chips more commonly found in smartphones and tablets, which allow the servers to deliver reduced energy use and a high-density footprint, all at a significantly lower cost. The HP Moonshot system consists of the HP Moonshot 1500 enclosure and application-optimized HP ProLiant Moonshot servers. These servers will offer processors from multiple HP partners, each targeting a specific workload. With support for up to 1,800 servers per rack, HP Moonshot servers occupy one-eighth of the space required by traditional servers. This offers a compelling solution to the problem of physical data center space. Each chassis shares traditional components including the fabric, HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLo) management, power supply and cooling fans. These shared components reduce complexity as well as add to the reduction in energy use and space. The first HP ProLiant Moonshot server is available with the Intel Atom S1200 processor and supports web-hosting workloads. HP Moonshot 1500, a...

Last week, HP announced their new remote print management services for enterprise customers. Managed Print Services allow large businesses to focus on business instead of mundane things such as making sure that print services within the company are working perfectly. “Enterprise businesses are looking for ways to reduce costs and improve business efficiencies,” said Jesus Varela, Vice President and General Manager, Managed Services, Printing and Personal Systems, APAC and Japan, HP. “HP has enhanced its printing offerings across services, devices and solutions for enterprises who can benefit from HP’s proven expertise in optimizing infrastructure, managing print environments and improving workflow.” Imagine a huge corporation with multiple printers scattered in different locations. HP Officejet Pro X, best-in-class when it comes to business inkjet printers

For business use, it’s no surprise that laser printers are the printer of choice. They’re fast and they provide consistent quality printouts that doesn’t wear out easily. Last week, we got a glimpse of how HP’s Officejet Pro X inkjet printer overcome the limitations of inkjets for corporate use and even best some of their laser printers. The HP Officejet Pro X is an inkjet printer designed for business use and it was really impressive seeing it churn out sheet after sheet of printouts in blazing speeds consistently. It has a maximum 70ppm printing speed for “draft mode” which is good for internal office use, and still can do 42ppm for printing in 1200 dpi resolution. This printer can also print back-to-back pages at the same speed which you probably haven’t heard of coming from an inkjet printer. If you’re wondering how it achieved that fast printing speed, the Officejet Pro X features HP’s PageWide technology that combines 10 printer heads into a single unit, bringing together more than 42,000 nozzles. These can fire over a billion ink drops per second onto each printout propelled by the delivery mechanism at up to 70 pages per minute. The ink cartridges are rated at 2,500 pages for color and 3,000 pages in monochrome. There are also high capacity cartridges that bump the yield to 6,600 and 9,300 respectively. Cost per page is significantly lower compared to using toners on laser printers. Cartridges come with pigment-type inks for better printout durability that doesn’t smudge when it becomes wet. HP says the Officejet Pro X is rated for a monthly duty cycle of 4,000 pages which is perfect for small but busy offices with 50 employees or less. Inkjet printer of this caliber is a really attractive proposition for business if you find laser printers expensive and pricier to maintain. These printers also have a lower power consumption, smaller environmental footprint and a notably less noisy. Related posts: A+ printing with celebrity parents and HP Ink Advantage...

HP announces new and simplified enterprise storage solutions

Based from a research by Evaluator Group, many organizations was as much as 70 percent of their budgets on capacity that is not actually storing data while administrators struggle to manage dozens of disparate storage architectures. This creates a rigid sprawling infrastructure that often forces organizations to choose between features and affordability. HP recently announced new breakthrough storage solutions for their Converged Storage portfolio that breaks through complexities and inefficiencies with a single architecture for all sizes of client deployments. The 2011-launched HP Converged Storage portfolio now includes: HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage is the industry’s only midrange quad-controller platform offering Tier 1 storage availability and quality-of-service features at an easy entry price point for organizations.Supporting both block and file data services, the system is available with HDD and SSD or as an all-SSD configuration capable of performing more than 320,000 input/output operations per second—2.4 times that of a similarly priced competitive array. HP StoreAll Storage, a highly scalable platform for object and file data access, provides a simplified environment for big data retention and cloud storage that reduces the need for additional administrators or hardware. HP StoreAll Express Query was created by HP Labs, the company’s central research arm, and is a metadata database that allows clients to conduct search queries 100,000 times faster than previous file system search methods, facilitating informed business decisions based on the most current data. Integration with HP Autonomy Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) offloads processing tasks to HP StoreAll so that analytics can be rapidly performed with more current data and using less compute hardware. Additional integration with HP StoreAll and HP Autonomy Consolidated Archive, as well as certification of other independent software vendor applications, provides safe, long-term retention of digital assets. HP StoreOnce 2000 and 4000 Backup, with support for HP StoreOnce Catalyst software, provides efficient data movement and high-performance deduplication to reduce data protection costs in remote sites and data centers.
