PLDT’s Cyberya now available as a gaming unit

The PLDT Cyberya is an enclosed PC that is usually placed in stores where customers can use to connect to the internet for a peso per minute. It’s a viable source of income for minigosyantes located in areas where households don’t have access to internet. PLDT just announced an updated Cyberya which now comes in two options: a gaming unit and a surfing unit, and both are bundled with PLDT Home’s wired broadband capable of internet speeds of up to 2 Mbps. The gaming unit comes with a more powerful Intel Processor and 1GB graphics card, a bigger 4GB memory, and a larger 18.5-inch screen. It won’t probably play those A-list titles but it should be sufficient for the usual DOTA, LoL, or other MMO games right now. The new wired broadband version of the Cyberya package is priced at P1,300 per month. Initial investment for interested minigosyantes includes payment for the chosen unit (P18,599 for the surfing unit, P23,799 for the gaming unit) and initial fees for modem and installation. Cyberya operators can now also benefit from PLDT KaAsenso’s “compelling extended 24-month warranty and preferential after-sales support such as hotline and carry-in repair service that will make it sustainable for entrepreneurs.” If you’re wondering about the viability of this as a small business, here’s what Cecille Medico, a Cyberya subscriber, has to say: “Estimate ko after eight months ko pa mababawi yung pinuhunan ko sa Cyberya. Pero five months pa lang, halos bawi na ako. The income was more than I expected. Ngayon, balak kong mag-umpisa ng food business gamit ang kinikita ko sa Cyberya.” (I estimated it would take more than eight months to get back the amount I invested in my Cyberya units but after only five months, I’m near to earning back my investment. The income was more than I expected. I’m now planning to start a food business using my earnings from Cyberya.) PLDT Fibr teams with ClickPlay, brings free video-on-demand to your home

PLDT Fibr subscribers, here’s a treat for you. PLDT just partnered with ClickPlay.ph, which you can think of as the Netflix for Philippines, to bring free streaming of blockbuster movies to your home whenever you want to. “Barely a month since we launched the HOME brand of the PLDT Group, we are giving our customers quality content using the ultra-fast and reliable connection of Fibr,” said Ariel Fermin, EVP and Head of PLDT Home Business. Fibr is PLDT Home’s most powerful broadband connection which is offered at a minimum of 8 Mbps speed and is also available at a whopping 100 Mbps speed. Even at the minimum speed, this connection is very ideal for streaming full movies off the net and this is where ClickPlay comes in. ClickPlay, which is partly owned by Magnavision, is like Netflix where you can rent videos and stream it through the internet. Currently, they have around 70 blockbuster movies from Warner Studios with plenty more coming soon. Streaming straight to Smart TVs and mobile devices will be supported soon though. I was able to try the service out and it was easy to select and play movies. Buffering at the start was quick and it was smooth sailing from then on watching Hollywood hits such as Superman Returns, 300, and Dark Knight Rises to name a few. Skipping and resuming within the video is also supported although at the moment only standard definition quality is available. PLDT Telpad gets an upgrade, the S7 Lite looks way better

Nov 28, 12 PLDT Telpad gets an upgrade, the S7 Lite looks way better

Posted by in Laptops & Tablets, Telecoms

Last December 2010, PLDT has introduced to us the world’s first landline with an integrated Android tablet – the PLDT Telpad. It was a bold move for PLDT and it was quite a success with households getting hooked up to the internet with the rich Android experience. Then last night at the W Building in Fort Bonifacio, PLDT launched their new update to the Telpad – the S7 Lite. The launching event was spearheaded by Patrick Tang, PLDT Home Voice Solutions Head and there were games and giveaways that involve prizes of the Telpad S7 Lite itself. Sadly, I wasn’t able to win a Telpad unit although I went home with a Sodexo certificate instead. The unveiling of the S7 Lite now gives Telpad subscribers more reasons to enjoy the Android experience. With the latest hardware specs packed into the tablet, users are now able to keep up with the ever growing tablet technology. So what exactly are specs of the Telpad S7 Lite? The S7 Lite runs on an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgradable to 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The processor is a 1.2Ghz Cortex A8 with 1GB RAM so it runs the Android 4.0 pretty well. The built-in memory is at 8GB and can be extended up to 32GB with a micro SD card. The camera at the front is at 0.3MP while at the back is at 3.2MP. The S7 Lite is also capable of 1080p video recording at 30fps so it’s a great way to document happenings in your family and share them on the fly. It’s now more lightweight at 370g in its sleek metallic casing. It looks much better actually than its all-black and chunky predecessor. Lastly, it has a battery life of of 180 standby hours and 6 hours of playback time. Now the best thing here is that the Telpad unit is now being offered free for all Telpad plans. The lowest plan that you can avail with the Telpad is at Php 1,849 monthly with...
