Here’s a nice incentive to start learning about search engine optimization: the PHP130,000 Philippine SEO Contest.
For the uninitiated, search engine optimization or SEO is:
a set of methodologies aimed at improving the visibility of a website in search engine listings. The term also refers to an industry of consultants that carry out optimization projects on behalf of client sites.

This raises a very crucial ethical issue. Is it right to push websites higher on the search list? And even turning it into a contest?

Today, I checked isulongseoph.ph, isulonseoph.net.ph, isulonseoph.org.ph,isulong-seoph.ph, isulong-seoph.com.ph, and other dotPH domains were not yet registered. It seems that the local contestants aren’t going to use the local domains. It is probably because the dotPH domain rates are still priced at US$35. dotPH has held on the this pricing scheme for quite a while despite the international domain name prices have gone down to as low as US$7-8. The contest annoucement has gone around. Aside from the official seophilippines website, you’ll see that contest annouced in jozzua.com, kabarkada, macalua.com, yugatech, pinoytechblog, mitolynx, staticbluecreations, blogalicious,and at carmelojosediaz.
