Ever wondered who the Top Philippine Web Sites are based on Google Page Rank? I tossed that question at my fellow attendees of the Mindanao Blogging Summit Planning Session. We came up with a few Filipino sites that we thought would likely have the highest PR.
For inclusion, it had to be either owned by a Filipino or Filipino Entity based in the Philippines. Which meant that definitely Ebay Philippines was out of the list. And it had to have at least a Page Rank of 7, this is because most of the sites I’ve checked had a PR 6 so I thought at least a 7 would make it stand out from the rest of the pack.
So far this was what I came up with:
- De La Salle University – Manila – a Private University in the Philippines
- The Manila Times – a National Newspaper based in Manila
- Alleba Filipino Directory – Andrew Dela Serna’s directory of Philippine Web Sites
- The Philippine Web Awards – Official Website of the Philippine Web Awards which has been recognizing outstanding Philippine Web Sites since 1998. The yearly event has been organized by Media G8way.
You’d think that the Philippine Government’s Official Website would make it into that grouping, but it didn’t because it scored only a 6. As did other Government websites that scored a PR of between 5 – 6.
If you know of other Philippine Sites that can be included in this list, feel free to post a comment below so that I can add it to the list.

is there an observable reason why manila times online ranks higher than inquirer.net?
Hi Gibo!
Most likely its because if you do a link search on the two at google
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=link%3Awww.manilatimes.net&btnG=Search
there are 3,030 linking to http://www.manilatimes.net vs 2,370 linking to http://www.inquirer.net, that’s without comparing the PR’s of the sites linking to them.

Manila Times ranks higher than Inquirer.net because of two things: 1) the Manila Times website is link-friendly; it’s easier to link to their articles rather than Inquirer.net. 2) Inquirer.net as an active domain is younger than Manila Times, so they get the benefit of more backlinks.
One more reason is Inquirer has about 30 adverts on its homepage. Its PR is highly diluted.
@Marc: Thanks for the mention!
Thanks for adding insight to the conversation Drew and Eugene

you miss the obvious. One mentions a relevant name in the domain.
its quite difficult when you are fighting to get page rank with competitive people. i am experiencing it now as our company launched a month long competition for search engine optimization. one hour my page would be on 3rd rank then a few hours later its on page 2. lolz!
If you notice it, Inquirer.net has a yellow card from McAfee SiteAdvisor.
