HTC opens new concept stores at SM Mall of Asia and Glorietta 3

Most of us know how hard it is to find an HTC store where you can see all their current lineup and play with them so you can get a better feel of an HTC phone. Well HTC addressed that by opening up two concept stores in key locations in the metro. The HTC Concept Store at SM MAll of Asia is located on the 2nd floor Cyberzone area while the one at Glorietta 3 is located at the Digital Exchange. Good news for HTC fans in the metro indeed. It was odd that the first HTC Concept Store is not in Metro Manila but in Davao which opened 3 months ago and is also their flagship store. These concept stores are one-stop shops that showcase the latest innovations, offers interactive product demonstrations, personal consultations by trained staff, sales, after-sales services, as well as redemption centers for HTC promotions. HTC ChaCha Facebook Contest Speaking of promotions, HTC is giving away 4 HTC ChaCha phones on its Facebook promotional campaign. LG cuts price on Optimus 2X and Optimus Black, Gingerbread update imminent

Sep 15, 11 LG cuts price on Optimus 2X and Optimus Black, Gingerbread update imminent

Posted by in Mobile

I’ve been seeing this price drop on the LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black lately so I wondered if you already know about it. The dual-core LG Optimus 2X is now at Php24,990 from its previous price of Php27,990. That’s a huge difference from other dual-core phones like the Samsung Galaxy SII which you can get for Php28,000 at the cheapest and HTC Sensation which is at Php26,500. The LG Optimus Black which holds the brightest display on a smartphone is now at Php17,990 from Php19,990. This makes it a really tempting buy if you’re in the market for a decent thin-and-light, 4-inch, 1GHz phone on a known brand. The HTC Desire S and Samsung Galaxy S costs about Php2k more. What makes these phones more attractive aside from their price drop is the upcoming Gingerbread update. LG announced that the Android 2.3 update will be available for these phones early next month. LG Optimus Pro and LG Optimus Net finally arrives

Sep 14, 11 LG Optimus Pro and LG Optimus Net finally arrives

Posted by in Mobile

Trying to keep up with the competition on the number of smartphones targeting different market segment, LG introduced two new Android phones to the country: the LG Optimus Pro and the LG Optimus Net. LG Optimus Pro We’ve featured the LG Optimus Pro before but to give you a refresher, it’s main distinctive feature is the front portrait keyboard for those who prefer physical keys rather than onscreen ones. It has a 2.8-inch landscape display, powered by a decent 800Mhz processor and will be running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It’s important to note also that it comes with a 1500mAh battery which is commonly found in bigger smartphones. LG Optimus Pro C660 Specs: 800MHz processor, Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset 2.8-inch display @ 240 x 320 pixels, 256K colors QWERTY keyboard 256MB RAM 150MB storage,  up to 32GB via microSD, 2GB included 3G/HSDPA 3.6Mbps WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi hotspot Bluetooth 3.0 3.15 MP fixed-focus camera GPS w/ aGPS support Li-Ion 1500mAh Android OS, v2.3.3 SRP: Php10,490 LG Optimus Net This smartphone looks just like other entry to mid-range Optimus phones we already have but with subtle design changes. It’s more than that though as it features the LG Social+ widget which makes this a touchscreen phone made for those who wants quick access to their social network. It’s no HTC ChaCha with the dedicated FB button but the LG Social+ widget reminds me of HTCs FriendStream which gives you access to your feeds straight from the homescreen. The LG Optimus Net comes with a 3.2″ screen with HVGA (320 x 480) display for clearer images although the 256K color is not something to be excited about. It’s also packed with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and runs on a 800MHz processor. Priced at only Php9,990, the Optimus Net will give the Samsung Galaxy Ace a run for its money if you don’t mind the slightly smaller display screen and lower camera resolution. LG Optimus Net Specs: 800MHz processor, Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset 3.2-inch display @ 320 x 480 pixels, 256K colors 512MB RAM...

Adobe Flash Video will soon be available to iPhones and iPads

One of the things why Android has an advantage over Apple’s iOS is that they can play with Adobe Flash. Apple shuns Flash mainly because it strains their devices making it slow and consume a lot of battery. This is forcing companies to ditch Flash in favor of HTML5 and Adobe wants none of it. Adobe gave up talking to Apple but instead created a workaround on their media server that will allow streaming of online Flash videos available to iOS devices. With Adobe’s Flash Media Server 4.5, content providers can deliver Flash content to different mobile devices including Apple’s iPads, iPod Touch and iPhones using the same content stream. So to make things clear, Flash on your iPad or iPhone is not device dependent but server dependent. There’s a couple of caveats to this. Only Flash videos are supported. You still can’t play Flash games or Flash animations on your iOS device and companies still has to decide whether to get this Flash Media Server 4.5 just to make their Flash videos viewable on Apple’s devices. If you want to get geeky, what this new media server simply does is wrap the Flash video into a HLS or HTTP Live Streaming format which the iOS can handle. It’s not the ideal solution iOS fans are looking for but it’s a step towards Flash viewing on Apple’s mobile devices. There’s still the HTML5 route anyway. AOC e2351Fh 23-inch LED Monitor Review

These days it’s hard to differentiate oneself in the LED monitor market. With display technology slowly advancing, the only way manufacturers can get a share of the market is through the design and the price. AOC is known for having decent monitors at a fair and more affordable price range. What we have with us right now is AOC’s ultra-slim (and cryptically named) e2351Fh 23-inch LED monitor which has a nifty feature. Read on for our full review and see what surprise this monitor holds. First thing I noticed about the e2341Fh when I opened the box was how slim it was. It’s only 10.6mm thin when some of your tablet devices can be thicker. The display monitor is light and was quite easy to set up, just attach the stem to the base and slide it into the display’s mini-stand. The base of the monitor could use a bit more weight and girth for stability but it wouldn’t matter here considering how light the display already is for a 23-inch. What I’m concerned about is the stem which is made of plastic but then again, it will hold the display reassuringly due to its weight. With the way the stem is attached to the display, you can only adjust it vertically. If you wish to rotate it from side to side, you would need to adjust the whole setup. At the back of this monitor you will see an HDMI, VGA and DVI ports as well as the AC port for the power (all cords are already supplied by the way). There’s also an earphone jack at the back if you wish to plug-in your speakers. Because of this port placement, you cannot wall mount this monitor without ample space behind it. At the front there are touch panels on the bezel at the lower right portion of the display. The lightest touch will activate and lit up these menus and a little bit more will make the monitor wobble. Using the monitor...

Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 Review

Sep 09, 11 Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 Review

Posted by in Featured, Laptops & Tablets, Reviews

Despite the emergence of tablets in the country, only a few can rival the Apple iPad. What we have here is the Asus Eee Pad Transformer which is one of the first 10.1-inch Android tablets to be available in the country to compete with the iPad. It may not look as sexy as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that we have before but this one has a few tricks on its own that’s worth considering. One of which is the keyboard dock (hence the name Transformer) which we unfortunately don’t have for this review. It essentially turns your tablet into an Android netbook that can almost double its battery life and give you the keyboard you would often miss from a touchscreen device. We’re going to take a closer look at the Asus Eee Pad as a tablet form here and see whether it should be high on your list if you’re looking for an Android tablet. Design Admittedly after seeing and holding the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Asus Transformer suddenly feels like the toy that got neglected. It was wider, thicker and holding it in one hand in landscape mode seems unwieldy. Something you might not want to brandish in public if somebody else is holding a slimmer tablet. It has a unique coppery finishing though if you want to be noticed from the sea of black and white tablet. Contributing to the extra girth are speaker placement on both ends of the tablet. Because of its width, it’s meant to be used in landscape mode (portrait just looks awkward). On the left is the power and volume buttons. On the right is the 3.5mm audio jack, a miniHDMI port and a microSD slot which is quite rare in quality tablets. Underside you will see the proprietary port for charging and data transfer. No microUSB port here. You can see the lens of the 5 megapixel camera on its slightly curved, textured back. The textured finish makes it less slippery when handling...
