NVidia Outs Tegra X1, Most Powerful Mobile Chip To Date?

Jan 06, 15 NVidia Outs Tegra X1, Most Powerful Mobile Chip To Date?

Posted by in Mobile, Personal Computing

NVidia has kicked off the new year by announcing the latest iteration of their mobile processor, the NVidia Tegra X1. And right from the get go, it’s already turning some heads with its eight-core 64-bit setup with 256-core GPU based on the company’s Maxwell architecture. Based on its specs sheet, NVidia’s new “super-chip” comprises of four Cortex-A57 processing cores with 2MB L2 Cache and another quartet of Cortex-A53 cores with 512KB L2 Cache. However, instead of using the typical ARM big.LITTLE implementation, NVidia chose to use their own cache-coherent cluster switching and custom interconnect which, in theory, should provide better performance with lesser energy consumption. Speaking of performance-to-power ratio, NVidia demonstrated the Tegra X1’s prowess by running the Unreal Engine 4 “Elemental” demo by only 10 watts of power. To put things in perspective, the Xbox One needed 100 watts to run the same demo, while earlier Kepler-based GPU need at least 300 watts to run it. The company was also keen to point out that apart from having a peak floating point performance of 1 teraflop, the NVidia Tegra X1 also supports all major graphics standards which includes CUDA, DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5 and ES 3.1, as well as Unreal Engine 4. NVidia Tegra X1 GPU specs: Process: TSMC 20nm SoC Architecture: Maxwell CUDA Cores: 256 Compute Performance: 1 TFLOP Engine Clock: up to 1000MHz Memory Clock: 1600MHz LPDDR4 Memory Bus Width: 64-bit Bandwidth: 25.6Gbps 16 Texture Units, 16 ROP Units Supported Technologies: CUDA, DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5 and ES 3.1, as well as Unreal Engine 4 Video Decode: up to 2160p @ 60fps Video Encode: up to 2160p @ 30fps Supports up to 2160p display @ 60Hz Supports HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 (4K @ 60fps) video output Apart from smartphones and tablets, NVidia also has its eyes set on the automotive industry with Tegra X1. The company highlighted the importance of its new mobile processor to the success of the newly-announced NVidia Drive platform and its two key components (Drive PX...

LG at the CES has just unveiled the LG G Flex 2. The LG G Flex predecessor delivers a sleeker and more dynamic look and is equipped with the most advanced smartphone technology to date. ZTE Blade Vec 4G Review

Jan 06, 15 ZTE Blade Vec 4G Review

Posted by in Featured, Gadgets, Mobile, Reviews

With 4G LTE sites improving all over Metro Manila, one can just easily want a LTE capable phone and maximize what the remaining telco with unlimited mobile surfing has to offer. ZTE is known initially for creating pocket WiFi’s. ZTE and Huawei were the top-of-mind choice when people look for such. Last quarter of 2014, ZTE introduced their affordable LTE phone, the ZTE Blade Vec 4G. At first look, it seemed to be similar to how the Xperia’s are designed. Upon closer inspection, the rear part sports a glossy finish with carbon-fiber like pattern with the ZTE in shiny grey font. The front part without the screen lighted up looks elegant with only the front camera and ear piece having a different shade of color. Overall, theblack unibody presents an elegant appeal and although it looks heavy, it feels otherwise at 132 grams. Thanks to 1.2GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, the performance felt speedy and very responsive. Adreno 305 GPU also handled gaming with 3D graphics well enough to enjoy a smooth gameplay experience. What we liked best is how the 5″ screen with 720 x 1280 pixels (294ppi) displayed the graphics vividly with the color reproduction being very pleasant to the eyes. Rear camera is at 8MP while front camera has 1MP. Both performed below our expectations. Image was blurry and pale. Video was also “just-acceptable”. See below for actual samples. As a phone that is capable of LTE connection, I find the 16GB lacking given that it has no option for expandable memory. Battery life is also not enough at 2,300mAh given that it is LTE-capable. For some reason, standby time is not good as well because when I left it fully charged, it was completely drained the next day. Conclusion It’s very light and easy to grip thus, perfect for one hand use. It’s one of the Chinese branded phone you won’t be ashamed to use because of the overall design and stylishness. It’s also one of the most affordable branded LTE-capable...

Cherry Mobile G2 Review

The Cherry Mobile G2 watch is Cherry Mobile’s second take on wearables. Unlike the Cherry Mobile G1 which has SIM and microSD slots, the Cherry Mobile G2 works by pairing the device with a smartphone via Bluetooth. The Cherry Mobile G2 functions as a dialer and SMS viewer among other things. At Php 1,899, is Cherry Mobile’s smartwatch a good buy? Read our review below to find out. The Cherry Mobile G2 watch comes with just the travel charger and manual. I was actually looking for the USB/data cable when I opened the box but later found out that it doesn’t actually have one. You’ll find out why later. The Cherry Mobile G2 I got was black. The watch strap and case are made of rubber and plastic. The G2 has a thick strap with two holes and metal buckle similar to the G-Shock Mudman/Riseman series. With the number of holes on the band, the Cherry Mobile G2 watch seems to fit any wrist. The power and navigation buttons are all lined up on the left side of the G2 smartwatch. On top of the display is the VGA camera and below is the speaker. So where’s the USB? It took me a few seconds to locate the USB connector which is actually hidden on the other end of the watch band. The Cherry Mobile G2 smartwatch feels bulky at first but I got used to the size within just few hours of using it. The default watch face displays the time, date and day of the week. The home screen wallpaper is plain red but can be customized with your own photo. Swiping your finger up displays the phone dialer while swiping down initializes the camera. Swiping to the left or right navigates to these other menus/functions the smartwatch offers: – BT device – Remote Notifier – Audio Player – Step counter – Settings (Clock, Sound, Volume, Language, Display, Battery, Security, Bluetooth and Reset Data) – Call History – Phonebook – Camera –...
