Important things you need to know about the Smart Sun Dual Plan 549

Well it’s bound to happen. The PLDT-Digitel is already final and they wasted no time in offering a postpaid plan that would cater to people looking to join both Smart and Sun’s network hoping some cross-network magic is going to happen that would reduce the cost for using both networks.

You’ve probably seen the ad.

Looks pretty self-explanatory. You get a combined Smart-Sun Plan and be able to text for free across both networks. You will also get 2 hours free calls to Smart numbers using the Smart sim and 3 hours to Sun numbers using the Sun sim. Plus, you’ll get a Nokia C2-03 dual-sim phone for free!

Anyway, things aren’t as clear cut as it seems. We were able to confirm a few things from Smart and Sun:

  • You can only use your unlimited text within the same network. Smart to Smart or Sun to Sun. Same with the free calls. Use your dual sim wisely.
  • You can apply for this plan from Smart Wireless Centers or from Sun Shops nationwide
  • You will receive two billing statements per month, one from Sun and one from Smart
  • You can only apply for this dual plan as a new subscriber (no upgrades)
Knowing these things you are now probably thinking, why not just apply for two plans separately? Well best reason would be is that there’s no Plan 200 from Sun and the Plan 349 from Smart is exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone. So you’re still coming ahead when you want the cheapest postpaid plan for both Smart and Sun.
A lot of people are now wondering, when will there be a postpaid plan that can do unlimited texting to both Sun and Smart network regardless whether you have a Sun and Smart sim. I’m thinking Globe won’t allow that to happen.

  • How would this be better than Globe’s Unlimited text to all networks for only P599? For just P50 more, you can text all 3 networks Smart, Globe and Sun (not to mention Talk N Text, Touch Mobile and Red)?

Digitel – PLDT – SMART is just flexing their muscles to show off to Globe Telecom that they can bully other telecoms anytime.

Existing subscribers are locked down by contract, shifting only after contract finished. Existing subscribers, however can avail of this as an additional line. This is nothing exciting, since the unlimited call is only from Sun to Sun, then Smart to Smart. Not Sun to Smart nor Smart to Sun. You’d be better off getting the FLP 350 and the Galaxy Y promo and the Smart Unli Call & Text 599 promo with free Nokia C1-01, then now you have 2 free phones valued at PhP 5,490.00 and PhP 2,300.00 respectively, giving you a total value of PhP 7,790.00 for a 350+599 = 949 monthly MSF, or whatever floats your boat.

Sun to Sun unlimited calls is here to stay forever. If PLDT will not honor their NTC conditions on the Digitel – PLDT merger, NTC will dissolve said merger. The conditions include that Digitel – PLDT will not discontinue any offer nor will they neglect the quality of their services.

For those who want the most bang for their money, specially those who want to surf a lot, checkout Sun Cellular ‘s offering for Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 under Call & Surf Plan 999 with cash out of PhP 3,500.00. For those who don’t surf, then the Plan 350 with Samsung Galaxy Y (Why?) cannot be beat.
