Sad news for those who were hoping to get more friends on Snapchat – you now have one less platform to promote your profile and invite followers.
Instagram now restricts deep linking to other social media sites – which means you can no longer include “follow me” / “add me” links that lead to your profile pages in select social media platforms.
We tried typing in the link to our Snapchat profile in the website section of Instagram, and we get the error message below:
It seems, this restriction only applies when you put the link to your Snapchat or Telegram profiles. We tried typing in the link to our Twitter and Facebook accounts and strangely, Instagram doesn’t block links leading to those platforms. Links to websites and blogs still work as well.
Apparently, this isn’t the first time that a Facebook-owned platform blocked Telegram, as WhatsApp also blocks links leading to the site:
