FreeSync monitors, or at least some of them, are now compatible with Nvidia’s G-Sync graphic cards. Just this January, Nvidia released version 417.71 of their driver. The update brings G-Sync support to several FreeSync monitors, removing the need to get an Nvidia-certified monitor.
It’s important to note as well that the driver technically implements the VESA Adaptive Sync standard. FreeSync is AMD’s proprietary implemenation of the VESA Adaptive Sync Standard. Since both use the same standard, NVIDIA was able to make its graphic cards work with FreeSync displays.

Nvidia enabled the FreeSync compatibility to any 10- and 20-series graphics cards, but only over DisplayPort. Unfortunately, the update does not support all FreeSync monitors. According to Nvidia, they tested over 400 FreeSync display and only 12 met their implementation standard.
Here are the 12 FreeSync monitors confirmed to receive the G-Sync support:
- Acer XFA240
- Acer XG270HU
- Acer XV273K
- Acer XZ321Q
- Agon AG241QG4
- AOC G2590FX
- ASUS VG258Q
- ASUS VG278Q
- ASUS XG248
- ASUS Xg258
- BenQ XL2740
The company said that they’re set to test over 100 displays more for the support. So, let’s just watch for the next batch of compatible FreeSync screens.
