OPPO held the 2020 OPPO Developer Conference (ODC) online, with the theme “For a Future of Convergence.” At the event, OPPO officially launched ColorOS 11 in China. The brand also announced its Internet-of-Things (IoT) vision “Enjoy a smart and wonderful life.” The company also introduced a number of innovative products and services.

OPPO Developer COnference 2020

ColorOS has more than 370 million monthly active users worldwide including the Philippines. OPPO’s operating system has accumulated a large number of users in terms of applications, services, and the content ecosystem. More than 140,000 developers have used the OPPO open platform; the open capabilities provided by OPPO are used more than 18 billion times per day. OPPO’s global application ecosystem continues to grow, with more than 330 million monthly active users and more than 1.7 billion daily distributions.

Seven system-level capability exposure engines, better security

As one of the first OEMs to offer users Android 11, OPPO hopes to create a smooth experience for users through more technological innovations.

Allowing developers to better access OPPO’s system-level capabilities, ColorOS opened up two more system-level capability exposure engines, AIUnit and FusionUnit. These are on top of the announced five engines: CameraUnit, MediaUnit, Hyper Boost, Link Boost, and ARUnit.

To protect user privacy and the security of the ecosystem, ColorOS 11 incorporates Android 11’s newly added privacy options. At the same time, it created a series of additional privacy protection and data security features. ColorOS has also obtained certifications from world-class standards organizations such as ISO and ePrivacy.

A smart and wonderful life

With the advent of the IoT era, OPPO will focus on three application scenarios based on the core needs of users—personal entertainment, home appliance and furnishing, and sports and health. The company’s rich IoT product layout and open ecological cooperation allow users to enjoy a multi-device, cross-scenario intelligent life. With that, OPPO released the HeyTap Health Platform at the developer conference to further enrich the OPPO IoT ecosystem.

OPPO also released the “IoT Enablement Plan 2.0” at the conference. Under this plan, the brand invests $9.5 million in resources to support ecological partners in a long-term manner. The support will cover four aspects—technology, products, marketing, and channels. Leveraging the five enablement systems of the HeyThings IoT Platform, OPPO will initiate the underlying architecture, break the barrier between technology and experience, and offer its users a smart and wonderful life.

OPPO’s first “IoT Enablement Plan” was released at OPPO Developer Conference 2019. The OPPO IoT ecosystem began to take shape with the opening up of technical capabilities. The company successively released a variety of smart devices such as the OPPO Enco series acoustic products, OPPO Watch, and 5G CPE. It also established partnerships with more than 30 well-known brands in the industry. More than 50 terminal categories and stock-keeping units exceeded 300 were introduced.

Three ecological modules to support developers

For a long time, OPPO has continued to develop the Internet ecosystem. With the OPPO open platform as the window and user needs as the core, the company builds three ecological modules—applications, services, and content. These modules provide developers with a one-stop service covering the entire product life cycle.

The development of the content business is even more inseparable from the support of industry-leading partners. Partnering with global high-quality content platforms such as Vision and Dailymotion, the OPPO content ecosystem’s users have grown rapidly. It records monthly active users of over 280 million and an average daily content impression of over 10 billion.

At present, the integration of 5G and cutting-edge technologies such as AI, AR, and cloud computing is giving birth to new scenarios and services. OPPO will continue to focus on global user needs and adhere to the “win-win” business philosophy. The company will also comprehensively support global developers and partners from capability openness to resource investment. OPPO will work with them to build a new ecosystem based on the Internet of Experience.
