For the longest time, Samsung didn’t have an Android phone that’s not too big nor too small for an average Pinoy’s hand. That’s very surprising considering that Samsung has released oodles of Android phones of all shapes and sizes… but not the 3.7″ – 3.8″ screen size with at least 1GHz processor type of phones. HTC was successful with that size on their HTC Desire which was updated to the HTC Desire S and recently the HTC Rhyme.
Anyway after all the waiting, the Samsung Galaxy W (for Wonder) is available in the market for some time now. This phone looks like your typical Samsung Galaxy phone with the familiar front looks and textured back panel. It has a 3.7-inch screen with the same resolution as that of the Galaxy S (480 x 800) but with a more powerful 1.4GHz processor. It also comes with a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 1.6GB internal storage.
Oddly, it can only support up to 16GB of expandable storage via microSD.
So who’s going to use this phone? For people who thinks that the Samsung Galaxy Ace is underpowered and undersized, the Samsung Galaxy SL so last year and too big, and the Samsung Galaxy S2 too pricey for a phone, the Samsung Galaxy W could be a nice compromise. The screen is not too big to attract attention but not too small for surfing either. The processor is powerful enough to run most if not all, current apps today smoothly.
With an SRP of Php16,990, the Samsung Galaxy W is really a nice middle-ground phone in the whole Samsung Galaxy lineup. It’s not flashy by any means but it’s a pretty solid Android for its price. Oh it comes in black and white color by the way.
